Yamaha have today officially announced the MODX+, the updated workstation which expands the capabilities of the original MODX.

MODX+  has a lot of the flagship Montage features but in a more portable and affordable package (think lighter on your back and your wallet) - 128 voices of AWM2 sample and synthesis engine, plus 128 voices of FM-X synthesis (FM on steroids), yes that's a total of 256 note polyphony.

Incidentally Yamaha have also linked to a new DX-7, DX-7II, TX802 and TX816 patch convertor to bring over those 1000's of legacy voices, as well as integration with their Soundmondo sound sharing network.

But perhaps the biggest upgrade is to the on board Flash ROM for samples, it gets an increase of over 70% of the MODX to  1.75GB.

There's also the Smart Morph and Super Knob, VCM effects, DAW integration, Multi-channel audio USB interface (4 in 10 out), Rhythm patterns and motion sequences, beat slicer, envelope follower and more. It really is a feature packed workstation - see our Friday Jam with the orginal MODX

The MODX+6, MODX+7 and MODX+8 are priced at £1,680, £1,959, and £2,239 respectively, and are available now.
