Orchestral Tools Announces Duplex Saxophones

Orchestral Tools has announced the release of Duplex Saxophones, a new sample library that they say captures the sound of perhaps the most expressive, versatile, and visceral woodwind instruments. This is what they have to say about it...

From cool tones to red-hot growls, Duplex Saxophones covers a rich palette for crafting engaging sax performances. Users get four instruments to choose from: Soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone instruments--each with extensive articulations. By providing multiple options, Duplex Saxophones maximizes the versatility of the saxophone. From '50s noir, '60s jazz, and '80s raunch to contemporary avant garde and classical, Duplex Saxophones aims to provide the variety and detail to cover the widest possible range of saxophone applications.

A comprehensive set of articulations--including jazz scoops, swells, falls, growls, and multiple vibratos--enables users to produce nuanced, expressive parts. Duplex Saxophones also features Orchestral Tools' adaptive legato, which adjusts the length of legato transitions according to speed of playing, resulting in much more authentic and realistic saxophone lines. Re-tongued transitions--in which players re-attack notes--further enhance realism. The library also employs Orchestral Tools' single velocity layer approach. This lends itself particularly well to solo instruments because it captures (and preserves) the expressive playing of the original recordings.

Each sax was recorded in the solo booth at Berlin's famed Teldex Studio for a direct, dry, and detailed sound. Mixable mic positions let users fine-tune each instrument's tone for any type of project.
