Radio Documentary Brings Hope To Disabled People

US 'The Right to Record' by Sound Artist Hannah Kemp-Welch 04/03/21

Sound Artist Hannah Kemp-Welch has announced 'Right To Record' a radio documentary that started out as a project group with people who have long term ill health or disabilities and developed into a catalyst for social change.

During the project, she discovered that people with health conditions and disabilities often had their assessments ignored or misrepresented and so needed to provide two devices to simultaneously record their consultations as evidence. They were only able to have their assessments recorded on CD or cassette - posing a significant technical barrier to most claimants.

She's subsequently created an audio work to document the efforts to lobby the Government and hold them to account for breaches of the Equality Act with some degree of success, along with personal testimonies they collected.

The piece will be broadcast at 10pm, Tuesday 9th March on Resonance FM, repeated 4.30pm, Thursday 11th March.
