Sonic LAB: Luna - The DAW Thats Not A DAW

US Universal Audio's Apollo linked recording system      21/09/20

New DAWs are not something we see every day (although if you ask UA its not a DAW, its a recording system), so when you get once from a company as well established as Universal Audio, its got to be worth a look right?

We held off for a while as its going to need a little time to get up to speed, but on initial release, Luna  was not called a DAW but recording system. It also is linked to UA Apollo hardware only - you need that DSP to get the benefits of the realtime DSP processing and  Unison enabled preamps. Another limitation is that it is currently Mac only. So a tough sell  - apart from the fact that its free of course.

Luna has also had an accelerated development cycle, with new updates coming almost every couple of weeks - this based on user feedback and feature requests, means that it is rapidly advancing.

Pro user Steve Evans - who's just moved into a new studio, took a look at what Luna can and can't do.
