Its hard keeping a lid on news like this, just ask JMJ, who let it slip in an informal Youtube video. but secrets sometimes do need to be kept - I mean, isn't it like opening birthday present before the actual day?
But yes, the rumours were all true, here it is, the full Size ARP 2600 remake - someone had to do it, and with Korg's relationship with the ARP Odyssey re-boots - it fell to them. Probably one of the most request remakes of any synthesizer, the 2600 is a defining instrument.
This is a fully sanctioned remake with early and late type switchable filter, and it's full fat, full size. Korg says "its a one off, once only production run" - we don't know how many are being made, but I guess that will feed the demand.
Also Korg says:
This limited-edition release includes USB and DIN-style MIDI connections, XLR audio outputs, plus the improved ARP 3620 Duophonic Keyboard with an added arpeggiator / sequencer. Your new ARP 2600 will arrive in a custom-branded hard shell case, complete with casters
So, you get MIDI, XLR connections and a full flight case - almost enough to make you want to fork out for the 3200UK its been mentioned. We know someone who has already put their order in and thats what they paid.
The 2600 will be shipping January February time - we don't know how many are being made though. But at the price its way more affordable than a vintage version, plus you get the keyboard, sequencer and flight case.
I'm off to see how much a kidney is worth on the open market..
