Spitfire Audio Cleans Up

US Free Kitchen Drum Kit sample pack is based on the soundtrack for ITV's Cleaning Up show 29/04/19

Spitfire Audio has released a mini-doc giving an in-depth look into the creation of the soundtrack for the hit ITV drama Cleaning Up. The mini-doc follows composers Paul Saunderson and Peter Jobson as they create the soundtrack, and will be accompanied by a free ‘Kitchen Drum Kit’ sample pack featuring sounds from the TV score. Here's the story in the company's own words...

Cleaning Up, which premiered on ITV in January 2019, stars Sheridan Smith as a cleaner struggling with debt and gambling addiction who is sucked into the world of illegal insider trading. Cleaning Up is the latest series from director Lewis Arnold, who has also previously worked on shows such as Broadchurch and Humans.

Paul Saunderson is the composer behind over 40 feature film and 8 TV soundtracks, including the award-winning documentary Three Identical Strangers, Jim O’Hanlon’s 100 Streets starring Idris Elba and Gemma Arterton, and Starfish starring Joanne Froggatt and Tom Riley. Peter Jobson is the former bassist from Mercury Prize-nominated rock band I Am Kloot, and has worked on TV and film soundtracks including Dead In a Week: Or Your Money Back starring Gethin Anthony and Christopher Eccleston, and Cold Feet.

In creating the soundtrack, Paul and Peter took inspiration from the financial theme of the show, sampling and processing coins spinning and dropping to create percussive sounds. Other everyday objects sampled include kitchenware and slamming doors, alongside heavily-processed guitars and pianos, to create a unique set of sounds perfectly suited to the soundtrack.

In addition to detailing some of the samples and techniques used in creating the soundtrack in the mini-doc, Peter and Paul have shared some of the samples as part of a free Kontakt sample pack, which will be available via the Spitfire Audio website.
