More Behringer Clone News - UB-Xa

Behringer continue to post progress on their ever expanding list of clones they have promised to build over the coming year. We're already starting to see the Odyssey in the hands of end users, and earlier this week we heard that the VC-340 vocoder had entered the prototype phase.

UB-XA side on

Next up is the UB-Xa,  the clone of the classic  Oberheim OB-Xa poly. These pictures of screenshots show the CAD drawings for the hardware case and full PCB design. The next bit is the firmware design which Behringer say is one of the more time consuming aspects of putting a new instrument like this together. We assume that this will include all the auto-tuning routines and self-calibration of the analogue components. Behringer say that they will be able to re-use some of the DeepMind 12 routines here, though the introduction of a new high speed ARM processor will require a lot of finagling.

We don't have any idea of the finalized cost of the UB-Xa, nor the final release, but we can assume it will be a little while.

Most of this stuff comes from the Behringer Facebook page, which is worth keeping an eye on if you are interested in developments.
