Last weekend we held an event at dBs Music in Bristol - we started the day with some synth talks from some special guests. The concept being a general chat based around an instrument or setup that has particular significance to each guest.
First up we have Dave Spiers from GForce Software, who brought his beautiful 8 Voice Oberheim, which used to belong to Chick Corea:
Next we had a great talk from media composer Ty Unwin - with countless music credits and more recently produced Midge Ure's orchestral album. Ty gives us some great insight into what he uses to write orchestral cues and some of his techniques.
In our third talk, Gaz Williams spoke to Adrian Utley (Portishead, The Coral - and many other production credits and film work) who brought along his classic Minimoog.
Finally, Will Gregory (Goldfrapp, musican and composer) brought his Korg MS-20 - a synth he's owned for many years and shows us why he rates it so highly.
The performances from the event will be uploaded next.
