Moog Post Appeal To Save Jobs After 25% Trade Tariff Announced

At the weekend Moog sent out an appeal to its mailing list appealing for action to try and reverse the US administration's trade tariff on imports of electrical components. The tariff which will apply to parts imported from China -  circuit boards and "associated components" eg pretty much all of the electrical components many manufacturers in the US use to source their parts will come into force on July 6th, as part of a wider set of tariffs including those from the EU.

Roughly half of the circuit boards Moog use in their instruments come from China, Moog say that they do try to source their boards from the US where possible, but it results in roughly 30% higher costs, so its not possible to source exclusively domestically.

In the statement from Moog:

These tariffs will immediately and drastically increase the cost of building our instruments, and have the very real potential of forcing us to lay off workers and could (in a worst case scenario) require us to move some, if not all, of our manufacturing overseas.

They are urging their US supporters to write to their elected officials, and have provided a pre-written letter  - you can view that here in an online version.

Its ironic that the protectionist concept of trade tariffs will essentially threaten jobs in the US, as usual in any conflict, trade or otherwise, there is always "collateral damage".

So if you support Moog and their plight, remember this will affect most US based synth manufacturers - please do what you can.
