Steinberg Releases Orchestral Library

US Iconica Sections & Players offers an easy approach to creating symphonic productions      27/06/18

Steinberg has announced the immediate availability of Iconica Sections & Players, which they describe as the comprehensive orchestral library that is easy to use and creates professional results. Here's the details in their own words...

Comprising all the single instruments and instrumental sections of a symphonic orchestra, Iconica Sections & Players comes with five string sections (Violins I, Violins II, Violas, Celli, and Basses), a selection of woodwind instruments, solo and ensemble brass, as well as orchestral percussion. The included harp must not be missed in a modern symphony orchestra and rounds out this premium range of instruments.

To provide this premier orchestral sample library, Steinberg approached specialist company Orchestral Tools and the collaboration came into fruition with Iconica Sections & Players. While Steinberg focused on usability and scripting through the advanced, user-friendly interface, Orchestral Tools recorded and edited over 150 GB of samples, combined with a wide range of expressions and articulations.

“Iconica is an absolutely versatile orchestra. Thanks to the multi-faceted sound of Funkhaus Berlin and its fluid playability, it is eminently usable in various kinds of genres,” said Jan Lepold, general manager for Orchestral Tools.

76 musicians were recorded in Studio 2 of the renowned Funkhaus studios in Berlin, using different microphone positions to capture every nuance of the instruments’ sound. Featuring the new Adaptive True Legato technology to ensure a realistic sound when playing legato, Iconica also provides the Tuning Scale function to tune to a number of different scales, while the VST 3 standard offers Note Expression and Expression Maps capabilities to create unique textures.

Iconica Sections & Players is compatible with HALion 6, HALion Sonic 3, and the included HALion Sonic SE. It works stand-alone or as a plug-in in every DAW supporting VST 3, AAX or AU.

Florian Haack, senior marketing manager at Steinberg, commented: “Creating Iconica Sections & Players has been a real pleasure in two ways. First, it was great to work with Orchestral Tools and exchange ideas and knowledge in order to come up with a library of such a high caliber. Second, it shows what a great and powerful platform HALion really is, and I am pretty sure that our customers will love the sound of Iconica.”
