Paris Monster - Turning Roles Upside Down

US Drummer plays bass, Bassist plays modular      12/06/18

Random Youtube discovery of the day goes to Paris Monster a NYC based duo -  featuring drums (Josh Dion) and Bass (Geoff Kraly) - you might instantly think White Stripes, Royal Blood - that sort of thing. But no, its a pretty unique setup. Josh plays drums, with one hand and feet and plays the basslines on a Dave Smith Instruments Mopho with his right hand - yes at the same time as singing. Its quite a technical feat and results in some highly rhythmic and syncopated live basslines.

Meanwhile, Geoff Kraly takes care of the bass - well no he doesn't. At least not most of the time. He also runs a small modular rig and pedal board which plays both MIDI lines and additional electronic processing, resulting in some very Fripp like textures,  as well as dropping the extra b-line for those heavy riffs.

Worth a browse around their stuff at Parismonster.com but this studio video was the result of a collab with Meinl Cymbals .

And if you are in the path of their current set of tour dates (North America) I bet they are great live.
