ContinuuCon Haken Continuum Conference

US The next event will take place at IRCAM in Paris in April 2018      13/11/17

The first ContinuuCon Haken Continuum Conference was held in Asheville in 2016 and was followed by another event in 2017. Now the organisers tell us that it's time to take things to the next level. they have announced that ContinuuCon 2018 will take place April 26-28, 2018 in Paris at IRCAM, the Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique (Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics/Music). Tickets will be available soon. Here's their press release with more details...

Performers, sound designers, composers and electronic music enthusiasts who attend ContinuuCon explore this uniquely expressive instrument through music, workshops, lectures and more. Dr. Lippold Haken, inventor of the Continuum, and Edmund Eagan, developer of the Continuum's synthesis engine EaganMatrix, along with many other technologists and performers openly share their knowledge, history and musical talents at this event.

About IRCAM:
[from Wikipedia] In 1970 President Georges Pompidou asked Pierre Boulez to found an institution for research in music. In 1973 the section of the building underneath Place Igor Stravinsky was finished, and IRCAM opened in 1977. From the outset, Boulez was in charge of the institute. The initial administrators included Luciano Berio, Vinko Globokar, Jean-Claude Risset, and Max Mathews.

Several concepts for electronic music and audio processing have emerged at IRCAM. John Chowning pioneered work on FM synthesis at IRCAM, and Miller Puckette originally wrote Max (which would become Max/MSP) at IRCAM in the mid-1980s.

About the Haken Continuum:
Designed by Dr. Lippold Haken and manufactured by Haken Audio, the Continuum Fingerboard is a musical instrument that allows unprecedented performance control. With a greater pitch range than a traditional 88 note Midi keyboard, the Continuum offers real-time continuous control in three dimensions for every finger that is placed on the playing surface. Included internally is a custom designed user programmable synthesizer, specifically programmed to take advantage of the subtle and dramatic expressive musical possibilities of the Continuum.
