OK it may only cost $10 normally, but Boz Digital Labs are offsring their Gatey Watey plug-in for Mac and Windows for free until Sunday 7th May and have just released the above video showing it in action. A spokesperson told us,

"This video shows how we use Gatey Watey on a drum track with just too much bleed on the tom mics. Where traditional gating fails, Gatey Watey excels. Rather than turning down everything when you drop below the threshold, Gatey Watey lets you control which frequencies will be gates, and which frequencies preserved, letting you keep your tom sustain, while killing the cymbal bleed. And it's just as easy to use as any other gate."

This is how Boz Digital Labs describes the plug-in...

Gatey Watey is a lightweight but clever gate plugin. Unlike traditional gates, Gatey Watey lets you choose which frequencies get attenuated when the level drops below the threshold, making for a much more natural sounding gate. It works great for getting rid of drum bleed without cutting off your drums, or de-noising electric guitars without cutting off the sustain. Basically, it's how all gates should work, but for some reason, they don't.

  • Frequency selective gating
  • Lookahead
  • Simple Interface
  • No Learning Curve
