In one of the more eye-catching displays of the show, I came across Joe Chan, CEO of Chinese company Pro Passion Tech, who was gleefully sticking his hand in a fearsome-looking shower of sparks from a floor-mounted pyrotechnic box of tricks.

Joe's invention could shoot sparks up to 5 metres high, and simultaneously shoot smoke and light it in a range of colours-  all from a small hand-held remote. Joe explained that it was much safer than previous alternatives as they had used a new formulation of metal powder to generate the sparks, which resulted in very little heat.

He was also keen to show the company's new light fixture; a system for synchronised/pattern-generating illuminated wristbands for use in clubs; and his own calibration system for measuring and matching LED colour fixtures.

Joe's enthusiasm was infectious, and coupled with a flair for invention, it was an interesting stand!
