We've been covering trade shows around the world shooting video stories since the dark ages before YouTube, and one thing that's always been an issue for us is having to use different wireless systems for each country we visit, due to the varying frequency allocations.
It's become a much biger problem recently, as governments sell off their bandwidth slots to the highest bidder for the burgeoning mobile telecomm market, and the space for wireless mics gets shrunk and shunted around the spectrum.

So we've been looking out for suitable digital wireless solutions for a long time, but til now they've been unavailable.

Just recently though, a number of digital systems have been released, using 2.4GHz or thereabouts to offer, theoretically at least, pan-global solutions - the RØDELink Digital Filmmaker Kit shown at Musikmesse looks like a promising option.

As Ryan Burke explains, both transmitter and receiver are cold-shoe mountable, run off AA batteries for maximum flexibility, and at launch, the kit comes with their broadcast lav mic.
