Tascam were kind enough to sponsor our show coverage of Musikmesse this year - they provided the DR-70D recorders we used for all our camera rigs this show, so we dropped by their stand to see what they were showcasing at Frankfurt.
Dirk Born (there's a film-star name if ever I heard one!) showed us a couple of up-coming products; first up was the US-20x20, which offers up to 20 inputs and 20 outputs over USB 3.0 (10 analogue channels + 2 digital S/PDIF channels + 8 optical channels at 44.1/48kHz).
If you want to go up to 192kHz, it handles 12 inputs/12 outputs (176.4/192 kHz/24 bit; 10 analogue channels + 2 digital S/PDIF channels).
It also has 3 selectable operation modes: audio interface, standalone micpreamp or digital mixer.
Next was a prototype 1U rack unit - DA-6400dp - capable of recording/payback 64 channels of audio. It's intended to offer a reliable backup recording solution, and has dual power supplies for redundancy.
