For many, music technology is still somewhat of a niche interest. I would argue that it actually affects many aspects of our lives, driving the technology and design of phones, tablets and streaming technology that affects us all.
For one thing, the rise of Apple as the dominant lifestyle technology is in my opinion, largely due to musical apps and innovations in that area. Microsoft who are also pushing a more musical future for their hardware (check their Remix project) and OS, sure are looking like a contender with their new Surface 3 - if the comments over at Synthtopia.com in an article titled Can The New 12" Microsoft Surface 3 Replace Both Your Tablet And Your Laptop? are anything to go by.
Apple's latest ad in the UK (yeah, the one that got us busted for playing in the show - c'mon - fair usage right?) pretty much focusses on music creation as the thing you most likely want to be doing with your iPhone 5S.
We spoke a litte about this in yesterday's Sonic TALK weekly podcast, and today I got notification from the Youtube Nation channel - Youtube's own daily channel aimed at promoting content to wider audiences. Before you ask, no we've not been featured on it - I wish.
However, the subject of todays bite-size show "Is This The Future Of Music?" it the rise of music technology - with videos from Imogen Heap (and her gloves), Binkbeats and Sidebrain. Bizzarely it starts with a couple of violinists - pretty old technology, but the presenter is a violin player, I guess its okay.
But as a wider indication of how important our area of interest is its pretty encouraging. Now how do we get featured on Youtube Nation...?
