The New EHX Deluxe Big Muff Pi: Revealed

Electro-Harmonix have released video of their new EHX Deluxe Big Muff Pi, and they have officially outdone themselves again.

I've always thought as the Big Muff as somehow both being the definitive fuzz pedal, but also being the fuzz pedal for people who don't actually like fuzz.

The very term 'Big Muff' is synonymous with the effect itself, and what EHX have done with the Deluxe Big Muff Pi is create a posh fuzz pedal.

It can do those gnarly garage sounds you have come to know and love, but it seems like the new BMW of fuzz, it's designed with an incredible versatility in mind, but it doesn't just offer function, it offers form too.

In the video (above) you can see how you can use an expression pedal to control the midrange frequency. This basically means you can pull up an EQ spike on the pedal, and slowly drag it up and down the mids to create a filter sweep effect which ends up sounding somewhere in between a wah and a flanger.

This thing is a control freak's dream. Not only is there a bypass stomp switch, but there is also a mids stomp switch, which allows you to either set up a mid boost or a mid cut (on a frequency of your choice) and click it in and out of the mix.

Want a thick bassy fuzz for your verse riff, but then want to cut through the mix for your solo? No problem, kick in the mid boost! It also has a switchable bass boost by the way, for when you want your fuzz to sound smoother than cold mildshake.

You're probably wondering - when is it available? We think it will be the end of May, probably around May 28 judging by when certain sites offering preorders say they can ship by.

What else does it throw in? There is an adjustable gate, so if you like that classic aggressive noise gate that sounds like your fuzz is being spat in and out of a garbage can, then you can do that.

If you just want a nice smooth noise gate to elminate hum, you can do that too.

The best thing? It's being listed on some websites for £74.99, which seems like an absolute bargain.
