I while back I took a look at a number of small format audio recorders - there were some pretty bad ones, most were OK, but in terms of audio quality, the Sony PCM D-50 was hard to beat.

It had a few foibles, though - Sony Product Manager Karl Kussmaul reckons they've addressed a bunch of them, and increased audio quality again with the new Sony PCM D-100.

It has 32GB of onboard memory and a full-size SD card slot for expanding on that, and records PCM up to to 192kHz/24-bit or Direct Stream Digital (DSD).

Certainly sounded impressive through those swanky Sony headphones (the ones I can't afford and are pretty hard to source in Europe even if I could ;-)

Here's hoping we get to test it out at Sonic Towers in a bit more depth, but meanwhile check the video.
