We are reviewing a Boss pedal every day for a month in March, and today, on day 14, it's the turn of the Boss CH-1 Super Chorus, the flagship chorus from Boss.

We're looking at 30 pedals this month, and then on the final day of March, we'll be doing a round up of our favourites. The idea being that you can quickly watch our bitesize reviews and make a quick decision on whether you like what you hear for each of Boss' compact pedals.

If modulation is your vice, then you might be thinking about buying the CH-1, a longstanding chorus pedal which has stood the test of time.

Rich's verdict - "I grew up of the belief that chorus has four main uses for guitar, these being grunge, metal, jazz and guitar pop. Working in a studio taught me that there was a little more to it than that, but these are still the genres in which it is most prominently associated. So which of these genres does the CH-1 work best for? I think it does a beautiful jazz sound, making my Les Paul sound like an old archtop, and it's great for poppy sounds too. It's a very manageable chorus pedal, verging on subtle. It can do the grunge thing convincingly, but on high gain sounds it begins to lose its way a little bit. That's not to say it doesn't sound good, but it just feels like it sounds less at home with higher gain settings than it does with low gain. A really smooth chorus pedal though, definitely one for the jazz cats."
