A little while ago, we heard rumours that Tony Iommi and Brian May were planning to record and release an album of guitar riffs, with the intention of providing guitarists something they could add to and build up into a full song at home.

The idea was to be that you could write songs with Tony Iommi and Brian May, and then record your efforts and share them with others who have done the same online.

Well apparently it's true, and there will be a collection of riffs released for home producers and guitarists to work with. But it sounds like the riffs will be played and written by Tony Iommi, and engineered/produced by Brian May.

Ultimate Guitar broke the story, having somehow got hold of a snippet of an interview with Iommi and Brian May in an upcoming issue of Kerrang! magazine.

"When are we going to get to work on that album of riffs together? You know what I'm talking about..." asks Iommi.

The Kerrang! journalists went to Brian May for a response, and this is what he had to say:

"Yes, I do know what he's talking about and I'm very, very keen. The record he's talking about was supposed to be a secret but I guess he's blown it now!"

"I thought it would be great to make a compilation out of them.

"The idea was to put all these riffs out in some form so that people could build their own songs from them. You could make your own music with Tony Iommi on guitar!"

Well it sounds like it's on the way, it'd certainly be interesting to jam along with Tony, although how you can improve on anything recorded by the father of heavy metal guitar is a mystery to us.
