George Martin came second behind Joe Meek in the NME's list of legendary producers, but Butch Vig says he should have come first. The producer, famous for working with Nirvana, Foo Fighters, and drumming for Garbage, said that George 'completely changed' music production.
Vig himself came ninth on the list for his career so far.
"I would have to say George Martin just because The Beatles records he did really broke so may boundaries," Vig told the NME. "They completely changed the way records were produced, especially for rock bands.
"Obviously it helped that he was working with an amazing band and they wrote amazing songs but he was very instrumental on the way those records sounded," he added.
Vig, who has also worked with Muse, Green Day, Sonic Youth, and Smashing Pumpkins has recently been working with Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic on a film about Sound City Studios, where Nirvana recorded their seminal album, 'Nevermind'.
