I'm always a sucker for a sweet large diaphragm mic, so it's hard to resist walking past stands at Messe with a display of shiny new mics... and Avantone Pro had just such ;-]
New for the show was that their popular BV1 model (Robert Plant is a fan, we're told) has been re-issued, after a period of unavailability (due to the scarcity of some components, I understand).
And a brand new model is the new BV12.
The CV12 model has been the most popular of the Avantone range - many assume it's based on the tone of the classic AKG C12, but Glen Heffner reckons if it's like any classic mic, it's the Sony C800 with it's more pronounced top-end, and it's this higher-frequency characteristic that has been brought to their new BV12, which will retail for around $799
Both models come with a vintage-style case, and feature a 9-position pattern selector on the power supply.
