A follow-up to Slayer's 2009 'World Painted Blood' album is one step closer to being recorded. The band's drummer, Dave Lombardo, posted an update on Twitter announcing news on the prospective album.

Lombardo simply wrote:

"SLAYER is writing a new record"

Fans were left guessing at the details of the album, as the drummer did not expand on the subject of the update. The band cannot enter the recording studio until guitarist Jeff Hanneman has recovered from a flesh-eating disease.

Slayer have stated that they cannot enter the studio with Hanneman, as they need his musical skills and his songwriting skills. The disease, called Necrotizing Fasciitis, is most likely the result of a Spider-bite.

According to NME, Tom Araya (singer) said:

"There's no way we'd go into a studio without him. As a band we're not going to do something without him... We require his musical skills, his writing skills.

“He's an integral part of the band. So we're going to hold off until he's at 100 percent and can join that process and be part of it."
