Foo Fighters Take Home Prize At VMAs

Walk wins best rock video award   29-Aug-11

Foo Fighters took home the honour for Best Rock Video at this year's MTV Video Music Awards for their song Walk. Dave Grohl and co were presented the award by the rather un-rock n' roll figure of Miley Cyrus, but in his acceptance speech, Grohl defended modern rock music:

"We'd like to thank Sam Jones, the director; Joel Schumacher, the director of 'Falling Down,' which was the movie we based the video on; and all our friends at MTV... I just want to say: Never lose faith in real rock and roll music, you know what I mean? Never lose faith in that. You might have to look a little harder, but it's always going to be there."

The Foos fended off competition from Mumford And Sons, Cage The Elephant, The Black Keys, and Foster The People, to win the award. The humble acceptance of which shows something of a u-turn since Grohl's part in Nirvana's anti-MTV tirade in 1993. But Wasting Light seemed to many to be about the band's coming-of-age, and nobody will begrudge Grohl for accepting an award that he so obviously deserves.
