Gary Moore Passes Away Aged 58

Irish rock legend dies in Spain   06-Feb-11

Iconic and ispirational guitarist, Gary Moore, was found dead today in a hotel room on the Costa Del Sol.

Tributes have already been flooding in from his fellows in the rock fraternity. Niall Stokes, editor of Hot Press, described him as a 'genius', and Scott Gorham said that he was 'a great player and a great guy'.

Gary Moore's career spanned the blues, hard-rock, classic-rock and various stints in the legendary Thin Lizzy. Tracks such as Parisienne Walkways and Still Got The Blues personified the guitarist's brilliant ear for melody and tone, as well as his incredible speed and technical proficiency when it came to using the fretboard.

After being sold Peter Green's Les Paul following Green's mental breakdown for £110, Gary Moore recorded the album Blues For Greeny - a tribute to Peter Green.

In 2006, Moore was part of a performance featuring ex-members of Thin Lizzy, this line-up is currently touring and dedicated their performance in Vienna tonight to his memory. Brian Downey, founding member and original drummer for Thin Lizzy, said "He will always be in my thoughts and prayers and I just can't believe he is gone."

Watch the Youtube video above for a perfect example of Moore's ability to switch from soulful blues to rock in 'Don't Believe A Word'.

His unique style and outstanding career will remain a true inspiration to guitarists everywhere.
