You may have seen our review of the Onyx BlackJack USB interface - a 2 channel audio IO with Onyx preamps, well now the Onyx Blackbird has landed, or nearly.
This is a 19 inch rackmount FireWire 16 channel IO with DSP mixing facilities allowing very flexible routing. As far as we can tell - we'd like to get our hand on it, you'll be able to finally have true bussing - enabling multiple physical inputs to be routed or summed to actual computer inputs. Something that has long been missing from this kind of interface.
There's plenty of IO with 8 channels of Onyx Mic preamps, ADAT, combi connectors, word clock and two headphone ouputs.
For the full spec, see the original news ite, but note there are going to be some new, lower prices announced for both the Blackbird and the Blackjack.
We also got a look at the new VLZ3 2404 desk, 24 channels of VLZ3 technology, 2 in-built effects units plus a 4 in, 2 out USB interface with flexible routing for both input and outputs. Even using realtime computer processing for subs or master inserts.
Details are sketchy right now as this has just arrived in the UK for PLASA - so stay tuned
