September 19th - Frank Zappa Day

Frank Zappa - incredible guitarist, comic genius, and twisted songwriter. The mayor of Baltimore must be a guitarist too, because he's just announced September the 19th as Frank Zappa day. On this date in 1985, the man who told us to shut up and play our guitars appeared in Washington DC to speak out against censorship in music. This special date will now be commemorated this year with a weekend of celebrations.

Saturday will see Zappa fans given the opportunity to chat to Frank's wife, Gail. And Sunday will feature a free concert by Dweezil Zappa, and the Zappa plays Zappa band.

This video shows Zappa discussing the decline of the music industry with incredible insight (and foresight). He also comments on over-censorship of music by the PMRC, showing not only was he a talented musician, but a true ambassador for musicians everywhere.

Frank, you have been, and will always be sorely missed.
