Rhizome is a big, dedicated, computer musical instrument. It is a music composition environment which allows you to record and play musical sequences created using VSTi and effects. There's plenty of dedicated hardware control and plenty of discrete screen areas for editing and status display.

Its powered by a Core2 Duo processor with 2GB RAM, running a stripped down Windows XP embedded - that is they jetison any stuff not required and dedicate all available resources to the matter in hand - in this case running music software.

In concept, its simillar to the OpenLabs way, but with a more unique approach to the control integration.

Its not going to be cheap, but it is very rugged and reassuringly heavy - or perhaps that depends on the state of your back or the number of stairs you regularly climb.
