Soundcraft has expanded the connectivity options for its Vi Series of Digital Live Sound Consoles with the introduction of a CobraNet interface card.
The CobraNet option card allows up to 32 channels of input or output signals (or a combination of both) to be received by or sent from the console onto a CobraNet network. The card must be used as the Conductor for the network. This strengthens the position of a Vi Series console within a Harman HiQnet system, allowing audio and control to be integrated into the desk. By default, the card is configured for 32 outputs.
Soundcraft have also released a Processing Card for the Soundcraft Vi6 adding Lexicon effects and BSS Audio equalisation to the digital console.
The card uses 8 custom Lexicon DSP engines to provide 8 Mono or Stereo Effects units which may be patched to aux bus outputs and then back into a channel input, or inserted into input or output channels. Soundcraft say that the real flexibility comes from having control of these effects on the Vistonics II graphical screens so giving the engineer a comfortable and simple user interface, for which the Soundcraft Vi6 has already been highly praised.
The Lexicon devices give a choice of 14 types of reverb, including various plates, halls and spring types, 7 delay settings (for example ping-pong and tape delays) plus 8 other effects such as Chorus, Flanger, Tremelo and Pitch shift . Once selected, the parameter controls appear on the rotary encoders on the Vistonics II screen.
The new card also provides a 30-band graphic EQ on every output (35 outputs), controlled by the first 30 channel faders once the output graphic EQ icon is pressed. The Soundcraft FaderGlow system now changes the faders to red (the same colour as the channel EQ on Vistonics II), and each fader now controls one of the 30 frequencies, which are shown in the channel label display. A composite EQ curve is generated and displayed on the Vistonics screen for that output.
