Those who visit the site regularly will know that we're fans of the Lemur system – up to now it’s been seen as a bit ahead of it’s time (see our review). However at MESSE Jazz Mutant announced the new Dexter capabilities – which were outlined in this news item from earlier in the week. Essentially, this is a new "personality" for the Lemur which makes it into an integrated DAW controller. It will apparently have multiple personalities each for a different DAW. I’ve just finished editing the video shot by our team at the show, and I must say this really does appear to take the concept to a new dimension. With a much more integrated approach, Dexter (which is kind of a firmware upgrade to the original Lemur product) can control pretty much all the DAW’s paramters convincingly, with dedicated screens for EQ pan, send etc etc. We saw it hooked up and were blown away by the mix demo. Alex, our host made it look incredibly intuitive and was zooming around mixing, EQing and much more with ease. I am hoping to get hold of this upgrade to finish of our review of the Lemur – and will be pestering them endlessly until it arrives – it’s looking more like the future of control....
