EdgeSounds has released the Genevoice GM64Pro24, a 64 MB 24-bit quality General Midi (GM) SoundFont bank.
Here’s what they have to say in their own words…
Nowadays just the “CD quality is not enough anymore. Contemporary equipment is capable of reproducing much better quality. So, why must midi-files still suffer? Well created midi-files deserve the appropriate sound quality. That is why we have created the Genevoice GM64Pro24, the first 24-bit sound quality General Midi (GM) SoundFont bank. In a process of creating this exclusive bank we have recorded 6436 raw stereo samples with a total volume of more than 1.5 GB. 950 samples were carefully chosen, edited, looped, balanced and added to the collection.
The EdgeSounds Genevoice GM64Pro24 contains 2 banks of 128 GM compatible melodic instruments each (256 total) and 11 XG compatible drum sets. 24-bit quality allows approximately +6db dynamic range increase compared to 16-bit, which delivers large amount of extra details in a sound of instruments. Users of the new 24-bit capable hardware can enjoy the higher fidelity sound when playing standard midi-files. But other 16-bit hardware and software synthesizers will render the Genevoice GM64Pro24 bank in 16-bit quality, still delivering the brilliant quality of its samples. This flexibility makes the bank attractive not only for computer game users but also for music professionals in a search for new distinct soundings.
