Rode’s VideoMic (VM), which we reported on at this year's MESSE in Frankfurt, is apparently now the world’s biggest selling on camera shotgun microphone and the company have now introduced a stereo version, (SVM), which they say not only offers the same sound quality and performance as it’s predecessor, but also meets the industry demand for stereo recording.
Rode believe that videographers may now use true ‘studio’ stereo recording techniques in the field with ease. The X/Y configuration enables the SVM to capture the true ambience of the recording space, while still offering a high level of rear rejection and low noise.
Fitted with a shoe mount, the SVM has the same low noise circuit design as the VM. The SVM offers 9V battery operation, an LED battery status indicator, a high pass filter switch, and a -10dB pad switch which allows for the mic to be used on most cameras with perfect level control. You can also use the SVM as a remote mic on a stand, or a Rode boom pole (Optional Accessory).
