Akai Professional have used the NAMM show in Austin as the venue to introduce the new EWI4000s Wind Controller version 2.0 software. Recognized worldwide for its expressive performance capabilities, the newest addition to the EWI family incorporates numerous enhancements in design and adds new performance features and MIDI continuous controller (MIDI CC) assignments.
With the EWI4000s version 2.0, the instrument has been revamped to offer what Akai say is unmatched functionality including expanded Hold, Octave and Pitchbend button capability. Other improvements include an electronic valve instrument fingering mode for brass musicians, expanded ability to assign program changes and the option to assign the Portamento Strip to any MIDI CC.
Specific new functionality includes:
  • Hold key functionality allows both legato and non-legato modes and an assignable MIDI CC switch
  • Octave key not only creates octaves doubling but now adds the ability to create parallel intervals for duo phonic passages and assignable MIDI CC switch
  • Pitchbend up-and-down thumb controllers now send MIDI CC and Pitchbend information separately
  • Expanded ability to assign program changes to all notes in the eight octave range
We’ll leave the last word to Jack O’Donnell, Akai Professional CEO, “The new EWI4000s version 2.0 software continues to elevate Akai Professional’s EWI Series to an even higher level of performance. This enhanced version is an exciting new development for the EWI series and offers wind players increased control of musical expression.
