Rumours were have been thick of the iminent arrival of new Powerbooks for a few weeks now and today Apple have confirmed suspicions by announcing a new 15-inch PowerBook G4 - that's right folks - not a G5 just yet. Hailed as the It’s the ideal balance of power and portability, with a widescreen display wrapped in the trademark sleek aluminum design, it’s just over 1 inch thin and weighs only 5.6 pounds. The 1.25GHz model comes with built-in AirPort Extreme, a DVD-burning SuperDrive a backlit keyboard that automatically adjusts its brightness to fit your working conditions. Built-in Bluetooth is standard, as are FireWire 800 and 400, USB 2.0, and DVI to connect you to the peripherals of today and tomorrow. To pep up your bundle of joy, at the Apple Store you can add RAM up to 2GB, and even choose a 5400-rpm 80GB hard drive if your work demands it. And the backlit keyboard, AirPort Extreme, and the SuperDrive can be added to your order for the 1GHz model. Apple have also enhanced the other members of the PowerBook G4 family with better performance and more new features. The ultracompact 12-inch PowerBook now provides DVI output for connection to Apple flat-panel displays, and they've reduced the price of their 17-inch model by $300. Prices start at $1999 for the new 15-inch PowerBook G4, and demand is expected to be high. For more information:
