Emagic's stand was impressive as ever with their giant workstations each with a couple of giant Apple Cinema displays and acres of Logic Control surfaces. For the show they were introducing Logic 6.0, their first significant upgrade that leaves the PC version behind. With a bunch of new features it looks like it's going to be quite a step up. We have an extensive demo on video coming so stay tuned. Logic 6 Main New Features:
  • New Marquee Tool in arrange window - allows intelligent editing of both audio and MIDI objects with audio displayed down to sample resolution
  • New 24bit image track icon graphics
  • Track hiding for maximising screen working area on large arrangements
  • Track Freezing - allows rendering of CPU intensive tracks such as virtual instruments, plug-ins etc. Tracks can be un-frozen for editing at any stage
  • Comprehensive project management - now you can archive, all your drives, search for files and save entire projects - including EXS samples etc to specific destinations.
  • Channel strip integrated into main arrange screen for quick access to audio channel functions
  • Grouping function multiple selection and editing of both objects and channels - great for grouping drum tracks and moving en-masse.
  • When working with video, Quicktime can be sent to FireWire - meaning DV connection to a camera can be viewed on external TV, eliminating the need for expensive third-party video cards.
  • Off-line bouncing including MP3 export
  • New Channel EQ plug-in with analyser
  • Improved time machine function including time-stretching in arrange window Logic 6 will be a chargeable upgrade from users of 5.x. Priced at $129 it ships in 30days and will be available for both OS X and 9.x
