Roland release passive monitors

US V-Studio owners, listen up!      31/08/00

Not normally known for its speakers, Roland has launched the RSM-90A passive and DS-50A bi-amped studio monitors Based on the DS-90As, Roland's first venture into powered pro monitors, the 2-way passive boxes have newly-developed second order filtering and front-firing dual bass ports, separate HF and LF drivers and a reported flat frequency response. They're magnetically shielded too, and will cost £159 each (somewhere over $200, we reckon) when they are released in December. The DS-50A monitors 'maintain the reproduction qualities of the larger DS-90A', says Roland - in a 50W box, more suited to the project studio. The 24-bit digital input and bi-amp design of the parent are also carried over, meaning that V-studio fans can still enjoy all the benefits of speaker modelling. (Luuuurve that cheapo transistor effect...) These will sell for £229 each - around 300 bucks - later in the year.
