This is my first hardware compressor, so I have a trip to Mars music where I was disappointed by the Behringer tube compressor to compare this to. As well as the plugin compressors in Sound Forge. The 5051 blows the doors off of the Behringer unit in all areas, and has the same punch relatively as the better software compressors, only with a warm lively sound not common elsewhere. The unit has six gain stages in 3 12AX7 tubes - offered up in a compressor, 4 band eq, expander/gate and a vintage lighted VU meter. This unit is a compromise between a preset compressor and a fully dialable one, with 4 settings available on attack/decay, though thankfully you get real control over threshold, gain makeup and ratio. My mpc has never sounded better...

Good Points
Nice selection of tube/valve based gear in a 2u package. Sound quality is tube warm and the eq section allows you to tailor your sound.
Bad Points
Mono. Though thats only a personal pet peeve. Sweepable eq wouldve been nice.
