Model E - Steinberg's first real shot at a virtual softsynth for VST2. Modeled after the Minimoog, it has 3 oscillators (6 waveforms each), a selectable 2pole/4pole filter, modulation routings, and supports multitimbral operation from one plugin. |
Fat sound. Not quite as good as a real mini, but smaller, polyphonic and cheaper. Some of the presets are astounding. Fairly easy to program. Having multitimbral operation from a single plugin window is nice. Altivec/G4 accelerated on the mac. As a VST2 plugin, it's run directly through the audio channels so there's no signal degradation and you've got full access to all the effects (and run though a bit of chorus it sounds MASSIVE).
3rd oscillator has to be swicthed off to use LFO. Processor hungry in a big way. Manual is kinda sparse, and there's no listing of the bank presets. Latent when trying to play direct (not from the seqeuncer). Does not run standalone.
