I started with a 24 channel Model 3216, and I am now in the process of combining a second 24 channel model 3216 to make a 48 channel version.

I am upgrading almost everything about the console. The first step was power and grounding, I have upgraded the power supply, and will shortly install a new distro scheme.

Next will be an upgrade to the 2-mix summing amplifiers and line drivers, probably using discrete opamps, and definately changing the mute logic.

The monitor section will also get a going-over, but thus far it looks like it will just be a cleanup.

Next come the channel cards, I am removing all of the mode switching, since it uses these awful little cmos switches, and I don't really work that way anymore. The preamps and EQ are pretty cool, so they'll just get a little cleanup.

Lastly, I do want to add additional aux sends, but I'm still not certain how I'll do that. I may end up using the remaining 16 summing amplifiers on the channel strips.

Good Points
It sounds great. There were some minor headroom "bottlenecks" in the original design, but they were quite easy to get around, and once I did, it just came to life.
Bad Points
minimal aux sends, which is a pain, and those horrible shadow switches.
