High quality active nearfield from Mackie. 8.75" woofer is powered by a 150-watt FR series built-in amplifier, 1" dome tweeter is powered by a 100 watt FR series amp. Each speaker is connected in parallel, and each contains an internal power suppy (110v in my case--non-switchable unfortunately). Each speaker is sold separately and comes with a 3 year warranty. The frequency response is an astounding 39-22,000 Hz +/- 1.5 dB!!! A bass rolloff switch is provided on the rear of the units to emulate typical bookshelf speaker designs, as is a switch to boost or cut high frequencies to compensate for the acoustics of the room.

I compared these at the shop with the Roland DS-90, Yamaha MSP10, JBL (the model escapes me at the moment), Genelec 1029 w/sub and the Genelec 1030. The HR824 seemed a lot more revealing than everything else except the 1030s, but the 1030s had a dull quality to them that I didn't like (plus they're substantially more expensive). This is Mackie's best product by far IMHO.

Good Points
-Absolutely stunning sound--you will hear things you have never heard before from recordings you thought you knew! -Excellent bass response for a speaker this small -very solid construction -good value
Bad Points
-slightly forward sound in the treble range
