The price is right, and the features are there. But the user interface is brutal. (I'm with Gunnar on this.) Screen redraws are buggy (or were when I tested it) and it feels flimsy. I'd classify it as possibly the right thing for a casual user ... but you've gotta be crazy to try to create large projects with this thing. Well, crazy or just really patient.

After using many sequencers over the years, from `Spec-Drum` to VST, I have finally found one that really does the biz. The interface is a doddle to use and its actual performance and versatility is second to none.
If anyone uses Cake8 with a Yamaha SW1000XG, please e-mail me. I have problem with FX.

Cakewalk is very stable, and fast. There's no drum editor though, but combined with fruityloops it's great! The interface isn't so bad when you get used to it. If you're into stable midi/hdrecording go for cakewalk, but if you want those fancy mixers and cool vst fx go for cubase..

Cakewalk is really great. Though a bit complex to understand at times (I don't like reading user manuals), it's got everything you need to make music. I especially liked the Virtual Piano, during the time I didn't have a MIDI Keyboard. Cakewalk is even better if you use a software synth to render crappy MIDI sounds into way cool digital audio

Over all a good program ,but the interface is probably one of the worst to ever grace any kind of software. It almost makes the program impossible to use. Not that Cubase and Logic are that good, but this is horrible. Too bad. The rest is good.
