Hey there. I used a Boss SE-70 extensively in a recording setup in the days we still used analogue reel to reels and later stuff like hard drive recorders. Later on when we started to use DAW's and we still used it. The SE-70 is a little bit noisy in some cases, but it is really a great all round effects unit. the interface is ahead of it's time and I especially like the feature when you press the knob and switch it back on and it turns into a guitar processor. I did several gigs with it straight into a sound system and the tone could have fooled anybody. If you are not going to use it as a unit in the studio or through the fx send etc. on you live desk, you must definitely use it as a guitar unit.

Being a long time user of the VF1, I decided to take a step back and pick up a SE70. The distortions/overdrives on the unit (being true analogue) are exactly what I felt were lacking with the VF1. Now I am not saying the SE70 can be a substitute for the VF1 - the VF1 has so much tonal variation and a glossy quality that just can't be found on the SE70. What I am saying is that I wish the VF1 used a similar way to distort and overdrive. All up I think that the SE70s will become a "classic", so pick one up while you can.

OK, so this will seem biased because I am selling mine, but the only reason why is that my VS-880 has two of them via the FX expansion board. The unit is very versatile and easy to use thanks to the "knob" on the front. Decent midi control. Delicious vocoder. The fx box that Global Communications said they could create ANY sound with. Old school samplah if you will. The only thing bad about it is that since it is only a half rack unit, you might have to buy two to fill the void.
