In 1974 at the US NAMM convention, Yamaha premiered a $60,000 polyphonic analog synth named the GX-1, built only to order it was purchased by few people although Keith Emerson, Led Zeppelins John Paul Jones and Stevie Wonder all bought one. Stevie Wonder called it the Dream Machine.

The original CS80V
Three years later Yamaha introduced its 'little brother', the CS-80. Using the same circuits as the GX-1, costing around a tenth of its price and limited to only 3000 units the CS-80, although slightly more affordable was still impractical for most, not least because of its whopping 83kg weight.

Now recreated by Arturia as the second in their series of True Analog Emulation (TAE) products the CS-80V puts Japans first great synthesizer finally within all of our reaches.

The CS-80V arrives on CD and supports VST, DXI and RTAS protocols on Windows. VST, RTAS and HTDM using Mac OSX and VST, RTAS, HTDM and MAS under Mac OS9. Additionally it will run as a standalone application on all operating systems.

Authorisation is via a serial number included with the CD, so it is up and running in no time at all. By registering online you will gain access to updates and extra preset banks.

Unfortunately the RTAS and HTDM versions are not currently working under Mac OS9 but Arturia assure me that an update is imminent.
