The Same But Different

Hot KP Action
The KP2 differs from it’s predecessor in a number of ways. It’s more robustly constructed with a much welcomed all metal case and gold plated phono jack connectors. There’s a new three-position switch that handles motion pad phrase recording and playback(only 3 seconds or so) and FX muting for transformer style effects. It also benefits from an FX depth control, replacing the bybass switch on the KP1. Another welcome addition is the MIDI in for tempo and BPM sync effects plus recording and playback of your moves. More on the MIDI implementation later.

Internally, sampling time has been more than doubled with two dedicated sample pads giving up to 6 seconds (mono) on each pad – this is fixed so you can’t have 12 seconds on one pad. While we’re on the subject of memory, the KP2 has 100 internal read-only programs (the KP1 had 60) and 8 quick access patch buttons, an improvement on six for the the KP1. User memories store the current program, the effect depth setting and the current X-Y position (if hold is on) and the BPM setting in the BPM /PTN group.

Fans of the original program set will be pleased to hear that all of the original patches from the KP1 are included as well as some algorithms from the Electribe series providing drum (yes drums) and synth patches.

Sampling
Its a breeze, just select the sample pad then hit record, the record button flashes. Next time you hit it, you’re in record, once more to stop recording. Play back by pressing the sample button or from the SAMPLE/ PLAY group. Its possible to sample a synth patch then apply more effects to the sample.
