Stompbox Compressor For Bass Players

Seymour Duncan has introduced the Studio Bass Compressor, which they say was designed to be incredibly feature rich, of the highest fidelity and provide accentuated picking and to even out your single-note runs. Here's the rest of what they have to say about it...

They are a lot of situations where having a Compressor can come in handy, both in the studio and on stage. Maybe you're playing funk or slap and need to limit the dynamic range so each note rings out evenly without being harsh or overbearing. Or in live applications where a strong and present bass sound is needed but where there may be strict limitations on the overall volume. Perhaps you just need a little smoothing out, which is where the Studio Bass Compressor comes in.

The Studio Bass Compressor combines features not normally seen, like the Low/Full/Mid switch that can restore some of the dynamic range lost in compression and it allows you to choose to be frequency selective or dial it in full range. It also fattens up the compressed signal for thick and heavy reggae tones. Or you can use it to simply make sure your effected sound remain consistent with your bypassed bass sound. Other features not commonly seen are the Automatic Gain Compensation, which compensates for input gain loss as the compression and attack controls are adjusted. A Blend control knob allows you to tailor the amount of wet and dry signal for more dynamics and transparency. The pedal will also automatically increases the compression ratio as the signal approaches the threshold, this allows it to function more like a limiter if needed.

The powerful Blend, Volume, Compression and Attack controls allow you to shape the level of compression to your exact needs. It's incredibly easy to dial in a smooth subtle compression to just help even things out or a fat and round compression that is ideal for Motown or vintage tones or even a Punchy rock sound that gives you a midrange punch and an explosive low end. Unlike most compressors with hard-knee thresholds, the SD Studio Bass compressor gradually enters into compression at a lower ratio prior to the signal reaching the threshold. This slower onset of compression provides a more natural, transparent sound, especially at lower compression levels.

Like all the other Seymour Duncan Effects Pedals, it's assembled at the factory in Santa Barbara, California and is true-bypass.
