We reported earlier that Billie Joe Armstrong smashed his guitar on stage at the band's iHeart Radio gig in protest over the length of Green Day's set.
But it appears that despite his rant suggested, the set was not cut short by organisers after all, Green Day have subsequently issues and apology.
The band have confirmed that Billie Joe Armstrong is seeking treatment for substance abuse, and that upcoming appearances will be cancelled:
"Billie Joe Armstrong is seeking treatment for substance abuse," the band said in a statement. "We would like everyone to know that our set was not cut short by Clear Channel and to apologize to those we offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. We regretfully must postpone some of our upcoming promotional appearances."
It's not made clear if Billie Joe was under the influence whilst on stage, but the statement certainly suggests that substance abuse is currently an issue for the singer, and claims promotional appearances will be cancelled.
