Tom Petty And The Heartbreaker's only gig this year is to be a benefit concert for a struggling radio station.
The gig will take place at Cal State University in Northridge (CA) on October 29th. The college's radio station lost funding last year when they did not meet the minimum audience requirements to qualify for federal funding.
The non-comercial FM radio station is called Kcsn. The Plaza Del Sol Performance Hall is a 500-seat capacity venue, which in comparison to The Heartbreaker's usual gigs is very intimate.
KCSN Program Director Sky Daniels said in a press release:
"Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers are not only one of the greatest bands of all time, they are true believers in the power of rock n' roll . For them to selflessly want to perform this show speaks volumes for their love of music, and their willingness to support KCSN's effort to build a radio station devoted to breaking new artists, supporting local artists, and respecting great legacy artists."
