Queen Honoured With BMI Award

May and Taylor pick up the honour   05-Oct-11

Queen picked up a BMI award last night for their contribution to British music. Other artists joining in the spills included Van Morrison and The Script.

The event celebrates the work of British musicians who have achieved popular status in the American music scene over the last year.

Brian May and Roger Taylor picked up the trophy (as per usual there was no sign of John Deacon).

This all comes in the year of Queen's 40th anniversary and Freddie Mercury's 65th birthday (which was celebrated with a Freddie fancy dress event in London).

Brian May told BBC 6 Music:

"I'm very, very happy. It means a lot I think especially because it is an American award and although we were married to America for a long time, we never really did much in terms of awards. We're not bursting with Grammys, so it's nice to have that tribute from our peers."
