It has not been long since drummer Mike Portnoy announced his departure from Dream Theater. Subsequently the band held three days of auditions in New York City, during which time they met and jammed with seven of the world's greatest drummers. The remaining members of DT looked at every aspect of the drummers' playing, and assessed how they would fit into one of the world's best known prog bands.
The band know that choosing a new drummer is an important decision for the future of Dream Theater, as well as for the future of their worldwide fan base.
"The departure of our lifelong bandmate and friend was an unexpected and truly heartbreaking blow," said guitarist John Petrucci. "The fact that as a result of that event we'd be introduced to seven infinitely capable and uniquely talented drummers was heartening."
The band are now looking to share this experience with their fans, but are keeping hush about the specific details of this move.
